This renovation project involved a thoughtful update to an upstairs suite that had been originally remodeled in 1996. While the space maintained its original beauty, we introduced several modern upgrades tailored to the new homeowners’ needs. We began by carefully removing an in-wall speaker system throughout the house, seamlessly refinishing the walls to match the original finish.
This upstairs suite renovation was tailored for a retired couple downsizing from a larger home but still seeking a space suited to their active lifestyle. The renovation featured a mix of structural and design upgrades to ensure comfort, style, and functionality. In the bathroom, we replaced the old shower door with a taller one and raised the vanity by three inches, adding a cultured stone top for a sleek, modern finish. To reduce noise between floors, we installed sound-resistant flooring underlayment beneath new hardwood flooring in two bedrooms and reinforced the subfloor for added stability.
One of the project’s focal points was the structural improvement of the roof peak, which opened up the upstairs area and created a bright, airy space. For safe access to the loft, we installed a new, code-compliant handrail, blending safety with an open, modern aesthetic. Custom cart systems were designed for the deep closets, allowing easy access, while shelving was fitted under roof peaks to make the most of the unique space.
We also collaborated with a local custom CNC shop, working off of the designs of one of our interior designer collaborators, to redesign outdated built-in cabinets, blending modern craftsmanship with functionality, giving the couple plenty of storage in a stylish package. The entire space was repainted, and new baseboards were installed to give the suite a fresh, cohesive look. This project balanced practical updates with aesthetic improvements, creating a perfect downsized home for the couple’s active, comfortable retirement.
